Corporate Social Responsibility
Sustained development requires that people, energy, commodities and the environment are dealt with responsibly. Organisations usually endeavour to achieve this by such initiatives as people-planet-profit, sustainability, Cradle-to-Cradle, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Kiwa recognises the spirit behind these initiatives, helps other to implement them, and is committed to making a contribution itself.
Given the nature of its activities Kiwa already contributes towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in a major way. Through its certification activities, for instance, Kiwa makes quality more transparent, which helps businesses and consumers to make educated choices. Kiwa increasingly provides services that are specifically aimed at social responsibility and sustainability. The Kiwa MVO (CSR) certificate, the Kiwa low energy consumption brands, Investors In People, and person certification are just a few examples. And by setting targets regarding the use and reuse of raw materials, water saving, and energy efficiency, the portfolio of certification services also provides a major contribution to sustainability. This is expressed for instance in the Kiwa low energy consumption brand, asbestos removal, reuse of granules, and the Safe Business Practises Quality Mark.
In addition to certification services, Kiwa increases knowledge and expertise, empowerment, and employability of employees by offering training and courses. Kiwa provides participants with knowledge to improve themselves but also products and processes and to make these more sustainable and safer. Its activities in the field of Gas Technology not only help making a safer and cleaner world, but also result in a more efficient gas consumption, for instance through research in the field of hydrogen for the automotive industry and energy-efficient central heating boilers.
The Kiwa inspection activities, which for the most part are related to soil protection, environmental safety and proper working conditions, are directly aimed at creating a cleaner environment and increasing safety.
Terms used in respect to corporate social responsibility are People, Planet and Profit. In each of which fields Kiwa is a Partner for Progress for is customers and other stakeholders.
But Kiwa has raised the bar high within its own organisation as well. To begin with, as a business services provider and centre of expertise, Kiwa values its People very highly. This is translated in offering excellent working conditions, ample attention for the situation on the work floor, and continuous training and education.
By listening to its employees, proper internal communication, and regular satisfaction reviews, Kiwa keeps a close watch.
Kiwa not only contribution towards making a better Planet through its services portfolio, but also and not in the least with its internal policy aimed at reducing the energy consumption and dealing with raw materials and waste responsibly. Employees are directly involved in the shaping of this policy, whereas a dedicated SCR committee monitors the compliance with the agreements in this regard.
While Kiwa is a commercial services provider, it has its roots in the public utilities sector. In view of this background, Kiwa is profit-driven, but not at all costs. Kiwa endeavours to be a financially healthy company that realises a satisfactory Profit while simultaneously keeping each of its stakeholders (shareholders, customers, employees, society) equally satisfied in a responsible manner.
To underline our responsiblity and committment to people, planet and profit Kiwa supports projects to re-introduce the beaver in the European habitat. Kiwa supports Oxfam Novib in their efforts to strengthen economies in developing countries through micro financing.
